The motto of Rotary, “Service Above Self,” aptly describes Warm the Children, which is proud to have shined a light during such an uncertain time for so many.
Rotary Club of Hamburg would like to express its gratitude to all who helped to make this year’s Warm the Children program a great success. Despite the ongoing challenges of COVD-19, more than 85 volunteer shoppers from the community accompanied 160 families to Walmart, enabling 380 children to have new, warm winter clothing! “For many of these youngsters, it was the first time they’ve worn something other than hand me downs or items purchased at a thrift store,” notes Rotary member, Liz Angelbeck, who coordinates the program. In addition, Rotary thanks the wonderful employees at Walmart, who were kind, considerate and helpful during the many, many shopping trips by families and volunteer shoppers. Here are just a few of the many comments from shoppers, whose participation is vital to the success of Warm the Children:
  • “The recipients of the program are VERY grateful. Sometimes, we as shoppers forget to pass that on- we hear it and see the gratitude from them when we complete our shopping. I just want you to know that Rotary is making a difference for the children served.”
  • “The mom I shopped with was so blessed! She bought heavy winter coats and leggings, as well as socks, underwear, pajamas and other items for each child. She kept thanking me for helping her family!”
  • “What a great year to help families, who are in dire need of many necessary items, most of which we just take for granted. It’s my pleasure to be able to help.”
  • “The mom I shopped with was shocked at what she was able to get for her children. She can’t recall the last time she bought anything new, as she just shops at thrift stores. I love shopping with families who genuinely appreciate the kindness in our community.”

Rotary Club of Hamburg would especially like to thank the Joyful Benefactors who donated $500 or more, Joyful Supporters who contributed $200-$499 and Special Friends who sent $100-$199. Our organization is grateful for ALL financial support in any amount, as this has enabled Rotary to sponsor the program since 2007. “Participation from our donors is critical to the success of Warm the Children, particularly in 2020, when fundraisers had to be canceled, due to the pandemic,” adds Liz Angelbeck. Although the program has officially ended this year, Warm the Children is still in need of donations to be able to fund its 2021 program next fall. Donations can be sent to Evans Bank, 5999 S. Park Ave., Hamburg, New York 14075 or through PayPal on this website.
